After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from Abilene Christian University, Karen moved to Denver to begin working as a geophysicist assistant in the oil and gas industry. At the same time, she started her own family janitorial business, which specialized in janitorial chemicals, supplies, and other equipment. It quickly grew to become one of the largest locally owned businesses in the area.
In 2003, Karen became a licensed Colorado Broker Agent. She returned home to Fort Worth in 2006 and began working as a realtor with Williams Trew in 2007. She obtained her Associated Broker's license in 2017.

Karen loves living in Fort Worth and is active in her neighborhood community, Trinity Heights. She has been treasurer of her Homeowners Association and attends a neighborhood book club, plus a Friday night card game - Liverpool Rummy.
